Cyber Activism Changing the World? International conference
Women have played a significant role in the current uprisings and revolutions in North Africa and the Middle East, where the Social Media was actively utilised in the mobilisation. It has brought attention to new media as tools for political mobilisation and as a platform for political activism and dissent.
Based on the recent events in Egypt, Tunisia and other countries in North Africa and the Middle East, the conference focused on the intersection between the Social Media and political development, the spread of democratic uprisings and the remarkable contribution and participation of Arab women in the process.
The conference was organised by the Danish Center for Culture and Development (DCCD/CKU), The Danish Center for Information on Gender, Equality and Ethnicity (KVINFO) and Danish PEN, the Danish branch of the writers association, International PEN.
